What is the difference between a open loop control system and a closed loop control system?
An open loop is not self adjusting, it is controlled by it's input only, any internal feedback loops are fixed (primarily mathematically controlled, in analogue may be gain control or limit filtering).
A closed loop's primary operation is not controlled by it's input, but it can dynamically adjust itself depending on the input.
Though it has to be said that the two systems have areas where the differences are slight, where it is difficult to decide if the loop is a clasic cloed or open system.
For example, a multi-input circuit may have a primary input then a secondary input that determines how the control acts on the main input-output path. This ought really be called a open loop, because the control circuit itself is not providing the self monitoring adjustments of a closed loop system.
In general digital circuits tend to have a very clear open/closed loop. analogue tends to be gray in some areas. Afterall, you could really say that even automatic gain control makes a circuit closed.
